Loved your email Iyabo! Bridgette here. I know for me that I've stopped shouting into the void that is social media -- for the most part. I'm focused on taking real action in the world in terms of writing my elected officials, continuing to educate myself, and also continue to expand my cultural horizons, which has been delightful. My sense is like yours, that people are sick of covid, and I wonder if others are also sick of shouting into the void on platforms that monetize our collective pain. Honestly, I'm ready to see social media crumble under the weight of its own greed. Just wanted to share my thoughts on your wonderful forum. And yes, I cannot wait for our first Black woman SC Justice!!! It's happening and the racists can whine all the way, but it is happening.
Thank you Bridgette!!! I appreciate your support. You are doing all the right things - writing your elected officials is leveraging your privilege as a voting citizen. Educating yourself is how you develop more understanding and empathy. I agree with you. I find myself pulling back from social media as it is now all about money when it used to be about getting to know folks!!!!! Sigh.
